We’ve been seeing a lot of embroidered mixed media work lately. The addition of a tactile material has always been something mixed media artists wrestle with. In its best form it can suggest a way of literal attachment that is perceived as slightly more permanent than tape or glue. I never trusted those iron-on knee patches and always asked my grandmother to add a nicely contrasting stitch around the edges for good measure.
These pieces are by Jose Remussi, but be sure to check out my favorite of this medium, Tsili Pines.
